With spring finally arrived, we’re pleased to provide an update on the happenings at your Community Hall.
First up (and for the first time), the Hall is organizing a Family May Day Picnic at the Lund Gathering Place on Saturday May 10th from 1 to 3pm.
Families, groups and individuals are invited to bring their own picnics, chairs or picnic blanket and enjoy an old-fashioned celebration of spring with dances around the Maypole; folk dancing led by Don Buskirk; a puppet show based on a play written by award/winning Gabriolan author, Iain Lawrence, for GROWLS; a craft station for children to make head wreaths with greenery and flowers; and a parade to the stirring strains of the bagpipes and flute.
All are welcome and there is no cost to attend – come join the fun! There will be a basket for donations to help us raise funds to purchase plants and shrubs for the berm encircling the Gathering Place. This could be the start of an annual tradition! (Click poster for larger view).
Since the AGM in November, the board has been hard at work, reorganizing and streamlining its operations around a system of committees to share the workload. The Events Committee came up with the idea of the May Family Picnic and has pulled it all together in double quick time. Though the Picnic is a free community event, the committee will oversee other activities that will raise much needed funds for the Hall. The Maintenance Committee is keeping on top of routine upkeep as well as longer term projects. The Governance Committee is reviewing the current by-laws and proposing amendments to add flexibility and coherence to be presented to the membership for approval. The Finance Committee is working on a long range approach to managing the finances. The Communications Committee coordinates the newsletter, newspaper articles and advertising, social media presence. And the Administrative Committee takes on all the reporting requirements and meeting coordination.
We’re always looking for new members to assist in furthering the goals in each of these areas of responsibility – if you’re interested, drop us a line. You, too, could be part of the happy band of volunteers pictured here.

We hope to see you all on May 10th and, in the meantime, enjoy the lovely weather! And don’t forget to vote on the 28th at the Hall if you haven’t already done so.
