The Community Hall has hosted some popular events this month. The Bob Bossin Farewell Concert was a full house and the ever-popular Food Forum was well attended as well.

The regular monthly sports events were able to carry on after our decision to delay the restoration project until after the Friends of the Library book sale in mid- June.

Again, we want to thank the generous Gabriola community for stepping up with one-time and monthly donations. Knowing there is a steady income helps us to plan for the future.

A new website is under construction and will soon be up and running.

Remodelled Bathroom

Hurrah! The upstairs bathroom re-modelling is finished and ready for use! It has been modified to facilitate wheelchair access and those of us who have mobility issues no longer need to negotiate the stairs to get to the toilet. Thank you to Village Foods which raised $5,000 for the project with your support through their Community Card program and thank you Gabriola Island Singers who suggested the project and raised $3,500 towards the cost by mounting a benefit concert last November.

The Board is in the process of gathering quotations to replace the flat roof of the Hall. As advised by Howard Houle, our RDN Director, we plan to submit a grant application for Community Works Funding. The gutters and downspouts are also in need of replacement and we will be combining the two jobs.

We continue to seek a volunteer Treasurer for the Community Hall Association. This job can be done online at home and only requires about 10 hours plus one meeting per month. Please contact us by replying to this email if you are interested

Bad weather has played havoc with the Community Hall again. A tree fell on the line that goes into the building and we had to hire a power contractor to reconnect it to the building.

Carpet Bowling

Nanaimo Harbour City Seniors Centre have donated three used carpets to us for Carpet Bowling.  If there is sufficient interest, we would like to start this program next Fall.  There are many expositions of the game on the internet, but CLICK HERE to see one example that I especially like.  If you wish to be on our mailing list for this project,  please let us have your contact information, by CLICKING HERE.

We are pleased with the cooperation of this new board and we are getting the jobs done!

Thank you to all who are involved.  It’s been a journey.

We always enjoy hearing from you.

Sincerely,
