Spring is nearly here, folks. Many of us will be busy growing food and flowers to fill our stomachs and our hearts.

We are fortunate to announce that Jane Simpson is our new cleaner at the Community Hall. She is very thorough and has taken on the task with a most serious attitude to get the hall shipshape. Thank you, Jane.

We’ve a bit of good news today. We have been accepted as one of the recipients of Nester’s Community Card program for up to $5,000. The project is for a heat pump for downstairs and would help minimize the cost of heating that area. This project is also a prerequisite for designation of the Hall as an Emergency Reception and Warming Centre for the South end by the RDN. So, PLEASE, the next time you are at the grocery store, load your card and sponsor the Community Hall! Every time you load your card for $100, the Hall will receive $5. Thank you for your support!

Issamba, an African Rooted Rhythms Band played to a happy Valentines Day Crowd at the Hall.

And the Annual Food Fair attracted its usual crowd of supporters.

Foothill Brass Quintet played to an enthusiastic audience during February.

Thank you for the ongoing donors who contribute monthly to a fund that allows us to make necessary upgrades to our hall. We will continue to apply for grants in order to follow through with larger projects and upgrades. With rising overhead costs, we are not making headway as far as our rent goes and the next month or so we will be working on how best to raise the rents a small amount so that we can break even. We will be in touch with all user groups to make the best decision.

Our annual summer fundraiser – the Salmon Barbecue – is on Saturday August 8th. Next year, we will be moving the date to the 3rd Saturday of August in order to make it easier for us to purchase the pink salmon that we all enjoy so much. This year, 2020 will be the 65th Annual Salmon Barbecue and we are working on a theme to mark this special event. Stay tuned and mark your calendars for August 8th!

Cheers for now,
